AI or Artificial intelligence is a tool that helps humanity with more conveniences. AI develops from human input of data or programming to do things in pattern. For instance, AI in premiere pro helps editors to blur or censor things which have a movement. Nevertheless, Chatgpt will answer every question in the same pattern. Although, people type to make AI more creative on the job.

Art work is a thing that is created from human imagination, stories, or creativity. Every piece of Art was spent at a different time to create at least for 20 minutes or some took for years to finish. However, nowaday AI is able to create artwork by using some keywords, references, or scope which affect the art industry and competition world. Let’s learn more about the details of the story and the effect on the art world.

The Story of AI in Art industry

The first AI that humans created for drawing started in 1970 by Harode Cohen. He is a British artist and professor. He creates a computer program called AARON. After his success, people continued to develop the idea, until the mid-20th, it started to have a website specifically for AI artwork. In 2022, AI websites will become more recognized such as chatgpt, Artbreeder. After websites or programs about art become viral, the art industry has more movement and argument on each work. 

The artist use AI to create work

Riety is a Thai artist, influencer, and model. She posts a clip video content that consumes AI design and artwork for her to develop. The video gives details about the name and function of AI. The AI consumes art called AI Generated Art. AI Generated Art will collect the data from Picture and keywords, until they have enough information to create a new art piece. AI Generated Art are similar to newborns, they will learn from basic words such as hungry, eat, dog, etc.

The website Riety discusses is called Midjourney. Midjourney is the art AI in application Discord. Then you open chrome in Discord, and enter into the Midjourney website, sign-in an account, then users will have their own account for creating your artworks. The web pages are interwoven to 2 social media platforms are Instagram and Pinterest. The post on feed of Midjourney will depict 2 functions. First, the description of the works. Second, the keyword artist were used AI to generated call prompt. Promt is an empty canvas in digital word, users can type any keywords on the canvas, AI will find the element that approximates to the catchword. For the keywords, it has a website containing words from fandom or style. This is the overall story from Riety explaining how to use an AI drawing from Midjourney website. 

Another creative circle which became a famous photography circle is the winning of Boris Eldagsen. One of the biggest competitions for photographers is the Sony photography competition organized by the World Photography Organization.  Boris Eldagsen sent an old picture titled “The Electrician”. The photo has 2 ladies, one in the front stand terror, and the other lady behind hand extends toward the front woman. He uses the same technique similar to Riety clip video by using prompts for AI generated work. 

After Boris Eldagsen finished generating artwork, he sent the photo into the competition, and he got first place in March. His photo won in the creative category, urging the jury to give his prize money to a photography festival in Odessa, Ukraine, instead. He wrote on his website “ He is glad for winning the award, but the competition shouldn’t give the award to an AI work, since it is not the real photo”. He forfeits the prize. Later than his movement on the website, the World Organization decided to delete his photo on the competition as the word from Boris Eldagsen, and suspended his activities to every competition that the World Organization administers. 

AI has an impact on the art industry and human creativities, but what are the pros and cons of it? 

For the positive side of the AI generated work, it helps humans to make the imagination become a picture within 2 minutes. For example, some people want to draw a dream but you don’t have the ability due to the equipment or skills. However, the AI can make your dream come true in the online canvas, and the consumer can print it out, put it on the wall of your stairs. Moreover, it is fast for those who want to get quick work. Some artists can use AI to create the model or mood and tone for the clients such as Riety. 

On the other hand, the artist can have less work due to the smart AI that can create an artwork or graphic. But is AI going to take the place of artists, the answer is no. Artist is a luxury brand,  however AI is a normal brand on the art market. The art that was created by humans is more meaningful and detailed in it. Imagine if you were the CEO of a fashion company, the collaboration that gained the attention from consumers would be the artist famous such as Yayoi Kusama who saw the word in the shape of a dot. Collaboration with an artist brings more value and story to the products of your brand. Is it more expensive than AI generated?. Yes it is, but you can’t have profit if you do not invest. However, it leads small artist to grow, moreover, young people who want art to be the main job for living.

The future of AI in art industry

The academic has predicted AI in a lot of ways such as conveniences, art market, and conservation. 

For Convenieces, as I mentioned in the previous paragraph AI made art become easier to manufacture. In the future, a famous artist might use AI to make their work more prefectural or do collaboration with AI to gain more creativity.   

AI could help consumers who are interested in the Art Market find more work and prices. To highlight my point, AI could help consumers examine copyright of the product. Moreover, AI might have the function to adjust the prices for consumers to determine. On the other hand, for sale, AI brings your work into the big market of an art industry. Consequently, a small artist has more chances to grow in an Artist career. 

In Art Conservation, AI could help the art conservator to repair the art piece, moreover, AI make the result of the repair the same as the original or more distinct on performance. For example, The most famous painting in the Louvre Museum is called Mona Lisa. The art conservator has a plan to use AI to re-cover Mona-Lisa pictures. Due to the situation of the protest in France, the government decided to extend time for  integration of Mona-Lisa.

Consequently, AI has a good and bad impact on the industry. Some use it for conveniences, some might think it takes over the place for new or small artists, some might use it for conservation to keep historical objects. Although, the overall advantages are better than bad. In every circle that AI attend will have both on positive and negative side, it depend on the perspective that you going to consume, and it depend on the creativity and development on yourself.
