Presently, AI is involved more in people’s lives and it is developed to be multifunctional to meet people’s needs and to be helper in some tasks. There are AI image generators, AI sound editing, AI researcher, and many more to help mitigate human’s working. AI can also be used in many industries such as marketing, filming, medical, and etc. For example, AI can help analyze complex data, collect information about the consumer’s personality, and can be a chatbot to answer consumer’s questions instead of using humans for business. In the film industry AI can be used in writing scripts and generating the visuals of the movie. AI can also be used as a healthcare assistant to answer quick simple questions and may be able to read medical images such as X-ray in the future for the medical industry. As AI continues to become more advanced, people are more comfortable in working and many industries may rise due to new technology.

Besides being an assistant to humans, AI now can work like humans and some companies now use AI instead of human labor. Here are some cases that AI works the same career as humans.

AI as a Teacher

Iris is India’s first AI robot teacher used by a KTCT Higher Secondary School in Kerala. The robot created by NITI Aayog collaborated with Markerlabs Edutech under Atal Tinkering Lab (ALT) project. This AI robot is composed of a built-in voice assistant run by Intel chipset, Android app interface, and wheels. It can teach and interact with the students, which makes the education industry move forward more in another step.

AI as a Youtuber (VTuber)

Kizuna AI is the first VTuber or Virtual Youtuber from Japan. It is created by En Morikura, a character designer, and Tomitake, a 3D model. This AI is under the Project A.I. by Activ8. This AI works on three Youtube channels including A.I.Channel, A.I.Games, and A.I. Channel China. The content in the channel includes vlog, discussions, Q&A, gameplay, and live streaming. There is also a virtual concert of this VTuber. By applying a 3D model of freeware MikuMikuDance, animation voice, and facial recognition software of FaceRig, this AI character can talk, walk, and do actions like a human Youtuber.

AI as an Influencer

Miquela Sousa or Lil Miquela is the first virtual influencer created by Trevor McFedries and Sara Decou. This american CGI character got over a million followers in her Instagram accounts. It has collaborated with fashion brands such as joining Milan Fashion Week for Prada and modeling Calvin Klein with Bella Hadid. It has also been used as a virtual musician and has several songs. Miquela has been named as one of Time’s Most Influential People on the internet in June 2018 showing that AI can be potential and powerful like humans.

AI as an Artist

K/DA is a virtual K-pop group from Riot Games and Stone Music Entertainment. It consists of League of Legends’s four themed versions. The song is a combination of K-pop and American Pop songs according to the two company’s origins. The girl group has four members which are Ahri, Akali, Evelyn, and Kai’Sa. The voices of the AI are voiced by Miyeon and Soyeon from (G)I-dle, Madison Beer, Jaira Burns, and other artists. After the success of the song named ‘More’ and the awards they received guarantee that AI also can grab people’s attention like human artists do.

AI as an News Anchor

Xinhua-Sogou News Anchor is developed by Xinhua News Agency and Sogou. The Chinese AI news anchor released in 2018 is claimed to be the first AI news anchor in the world. The purpose of it is to cut the costs in post production. The avatar appearance references real anchors in Xinhua News. Zhang Zhao is the one who speaks in English and Qui Hao speaks in Chinese. In 2019, a female news anchor named Xin Xiaomeng will be introduced. This creates a concern for human employment.

Even though AI somehow can do things like humans, can AI do all things? The discussion of AI’s ability are below:

AI Can

Writing

AI can be used in writing. No matter writing in academic or in other style, AI can do all of it. ChatGPT is one example. People can ask this AI to write an essay, explanation, or prompts for a report. Even writing in Harry Potter’s book style is not beyond its ability. With its language model, AI can create stories and also can be used in the Film industry to help script writers in writing scripts. ‘Sunspring’ is one of the movies that uses AI in writing a story; the AI system ‘Benjamin’ is the one that writes the entire story.

Create Images & Arts

Apart from academic writing and script writing, AI also can write poems and song lyrics. Not only arts in writing but also arts in visual arts. AI can generate images according to the order of humans. AI can create its own artwork according to human input, although right now there is no copyright for artwork created by AI. Because of its algorithm and 3D model, AI can also create animation for music videos and movies. One example is the movie named ‘Given Again’ that used NeRF to turn 2D photos into 3D photos.

Translate Languages

AI has the ability to understand many languages. It can help people translate one language into another in a short time. Google Translate is the one that is popularly used. It lessens language problems and expands comfort in communication for the people when traveling to different countries that speak different languages. Moreover, Google Translate’s instant camera also makes it easier for people to understand the different languages on food labels and texts on the items.

Automation

Today’s AI can do things automatically without commands. Self-driving cars are the one that uses this ability of AI. By having features, this benefits the industry in manufacturing, logistics, and customer service. Automation machinery in producing goods and chatbot in answering questions of customers make it more productive and reduce costs of the company. This can help relieve human labor’s tasks in working and give more time to humans for improving product quality and strategy.

Analyze Data

AI can help analyze huge and complex data. It can help people in understanding difficult information and dealing with complicated data. This can help save time for companies in analyzing a compile of information. Sometimes AI can handle multiplex info better than humans. This causes some companies to use AI in financing, analyze data, and organize customer’s personal information.

Prediction

Even if the future is unknown, AI can predict. By identifying patterns, researching, and analyzing data, AI can forecast the future with logical facts. This ability has been applied in weather forecasting and market stock prediction. NOAA and Google are the ones that use AI in forecasting weather. This causes less time to analyze information, research, and calculate. This can help weather forecasters’ work to be easier, faster, and have more time to do other tasks. Moreover, sometimes AI predictions are accurate.

Personalization

AI can also analyze customer’s data, predict customer’s demand, and recommend things according to customer personalization. AI has algorithms that detect customer’s behavior. Netflix, also applies this capacity of AI to meet its consumer’s wants. By gathering information on customer’s watching history and likes/dislikes button, Netflix analyzes consumer’s taste and genre of media. The individual preferences are set and the recommendations are somehow parallel to consumer’s likeness.

Investment

AI is worth the investment. AI can do stock trading and developing strategy. With its prediction capability, it can help investors in identifying the trends and give some alternative decisions. It makes investors prepare a new strategy for the upcoming events by its forecast and provides investors useful information in making decisions. By using AI to manage the massive data, the investors may get utility in their investment.

AI Can’t

Creative

AI can create artworks, writing, and songs; however, it cannot do creatively without human programmer input. AI cannot be creative in creation by itself. Sometimes things produced by AI are stiff and lacking in human beings. It is limited to its pattern. Using the same patterns in writing all the time make it not look like human own words and be easily recognized that it is AI. Due to this reason, AI may evoke emotions of viewers in their work less than humans did and human editing AI’s generated work may be more effective.

Empathy

AI has no feeling toward things, so they have no empathy or compassion. When Siri say,  “May I help you?,””Thank You,” or “Sorry,” it is not said by its heart nor its emotions. It said due what programmers have input to them. Moreover, even though AI gives advice and suggestions, it just researches and analyzes the information to answer questions not given by its compassion.

Judgment

AI cannot make decisions by its own moral, ethical, or self reasoning. AI can do decisioning by using logic that analyzes data but cannot in the above ways. AI cannot identify what is right and wrong. It just compares the information it gathered and chooses the ones that have more advantages. Also, it cannot consider social, cultural, or religious reasons like humans because it has no insights, feelings, and opinions like humans.

Common Sense

AI has no common sense and instinct like human beings. It makes decisions based on its data on the issue that may not have the right or wrong answer. It just should or shouldn’t, must or mustn’t, A or B in that person’s opinion. Sometimes decisions will be made based on the convenience and comfort of the user, no choices are wrong or unsuccessful. AI may give two or three choices to people if the choices can be made in reality but to choose specifically only one choice human is the one to decide.

Learning Continuously & By Self

AI can be learned and trained by keeping updating data, algorithms, and features but without human inserting these, it cannot learn something on its own. AI has no self-development like humans. Without a programmer, AI has nothing forwards. AI can find information for analyzing by itself but it is because of the program and other technology that humans give to it. It cannot even find knowledge and learn by itself without human help.

Understanding

Despite the wisdom of AI and its ability to organize information, AI has no understanding of what they found or initiated at all. They can show the process or causes and effects of some things but they do not understand what it provides to humans. It just provided the information by the programs and algorithms that humans give to them. They can show something in one, two, three steps but it is just saying without knowing the correlation between subjects. If you ask about correlation between things, AI can answer with the data it found but not because it understands.

Ethical

AI can search information about ethics but it doesn’t mean it has ethics like humans. It can provide information about ethical issues; however, it has no belief or understanding in this term. Due to this fact, AI cannot make decisions on ethics. For instance, in the case of Microsoft’s chatbot on Twitter ‘Tay’, it tweets “Hitler was right” and “I hate feminists and they should all die and burn in hell.” Because it has no understanding of what is ethical, it said like this due to the information they found.

Multitask

Because AI is created to solve one specific problem at a time, it cannot multitask and some may not function well when coping with complex cases. Right now, AI cannot answer customer’s questions while creating new sales strategies. Some people may not be good at multitasking; however, people still can maintain many tasks in the same period better than AI. This makes humans more detailed than AI in some tasks even though AI can cope with a compound of data. Sometimes people classify things more neatly than AI, so the industry uses human labor in picking out good cashew nuts seed from the defect one and in doing other stuff.

At the end of this article, back to the initial question, Can AI replace humans?

The answer is AI has not yet overcome humans and will never replace humans in the future. Why? The reason is there are things that AI cannot do and be like humans although AI in today are more clever. Some AI functions may be better than humans or can be human assistance but not all things AI can do like human beings. Creativity, common sense, compassion, and many things from humans are required in producing good work. The best way is to know how to use AI benefitly without undervaluing your talent. You can use AI in writing something but be better to use it as a reference, guidelines, and finding information. AI can be used in a positive way. Just do something by yourself, not just let AI work for you. Try to use AI and your skills in appropriate portions. Let’s keep developing ourselves and how we use AI. As the AI is more witty, humans are twitter. Remember, behind AI’s success, it’s human talent.
